“When we become disembodied from our emotions to the point that we don’t recognise which physical feelings are connected to which emotional feelings, We don’t gain control. We lose it.”
Brené Brown / Dare to Lead
Welcome to Embodied Movement.
I am Chara, a passionate Dance Movement Therapist and experienced performer across a range of dance styles.
My work focuses on harnessing the power of body language, emotional regulation techniques, and expressive movement to foster a deeper mind-body connection and integration.
Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) is a unique form of psychotherapy that utilises nonverbal language to promote emotional, social, cognitive, and physical well-being. Through mindful and expressive movement, I help individuals connect with their emotions, enhance self-awareness, and build resilience to support healing and integration.

From Silence to Embodiment
-
In 2011, Chara left Taiwan and arrived in Melbourne with a heart full of dreams — and only a few words of English.
The world suddenly felt unfamiliar and overwhelming. Conversations moved too quickly to follow, and everyday interactions required courage. At times, she felt like a stranger not only in a new country, but also within her own life.
But there was one place where language was never required.
Dance.
Chara immersed herself in the vibrant world of Latin dance, training intensely, performing on stage, and competing with passion. Under the glow of stage lights, her body found a voice that words could not yet express.
By night, she became a showgirl.
Through movement, she could communicate joy, confidence, longing, and vulnerability. Dance allowed her to connect with people, to feel seen, and to belong in a place that once felt distant and unfamiliar.
For several years, dance was both her sanctuary and her identity. It was where she felt most alive.
But life, like dance, moves through many rhythms.
In 2015, injuries from years of performing began to surface, and the pressure of academic life grew heavier. Slowly, Chara stepped away from the dance floor and redirected her focus toward building a stable life and career in Melbourne.
The music quieted.
Dance faded into the background.
-
Then came 2020.
As the world faced the uncertainty of a global pandemic, Chara was navigating storms of her own — the strain of a long-term relationship, career instability, and health challenges. The sense of control she once felt began to slip away, leaving her feeling lost and emotionally exhausted.
In the midst of that chaos, something quietly called her back.
Movement.
But this time, dance returned in a very different way.
There were no stages, no costumes, and no audience. Instead, there was curiosity, stillness, and listening. Through expressive movement and personal dance practice, Chara began reconnecting with her body — not as a performer, but as someone searching for healing.
Her body became a place where emotions could finally be felt.
Feelings that had long been suppressed began to surface through movement. In the rhythm of breath and the flow of the body, she discovered that the body carries stories the mind cannot always articulate.
Slowly, movement became medicine.
As she deepened this practice, Chara began to rebuild something essential: trust in herself. The more she listened to her body, the clearer its messages became.
That inner connection gave her the courage to make one of the most difficult decisions of her life.
In 2022, she left the domestic violence environment.
It was not a sudden act of bravery, but the result of a gradual return to herself. Through movement, her body had become a compass — guiding her toward safety, dignity, and self-respect.
-
Through this deeply personal journey, Chara came to a powerful realisation: true healing cannot happen through the mind alone.
To heal from trauma and become whole, there must be a connection between the body, our emotions, and psychological wellbeing. When these parts are disconnected, people often feel lost within themselves. But when they are reunited, something transformative begins to unfold.
This insight reshaped the direction of Chara’s life.
From 2023, she began studying emotions, body language, and the therapeutic power of movement, seeking to understand how the body stores experience and how movement can support emotional healing.
What began as a personal journey gradually evolved into a calling.
Today, Chara advocates for emotional education, body awareness, and holistic healing. In many cultures, people are taught how to think and achieve, but rarely how to understand their emotions or listen to the wisdom of their bodies.
Yet the body is always speaking.
Through movement, people can learn to listen again.
Chara’s work invites individuals to explore their emotions through expressive movement and embodied awareness. In these spaces, people are encouraged to feel, express, and reconnect with themselves in ways that go beyond words.
When people begin to move with awareness, something quietly shifts. Emotional understanding deepens, old behavioural patterns soften, and relationships — both with oneself and with others — begin to change.
Chara’s journey began in silence in a foreign land.
But through dance, she discovered a voice beyond words — a voice that lives in breath, rhythm, and movement.
A voice of embodiment.
And today, she shares that path with others, helping them return home to the wisdom of their own bodies.
